New research published in The Anatomical Record on how sauropods evolved long necks was highlighted Nature magazine’s “Research Highlights.” In the paper, a team Brazilian researchers studied a new specimen excavated near Agudo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and concluded that “the elongation of the neck of sauropodomorphs is an example of gradual evolutionary process,” rather than abruptly. The findings will appear in the upcoming Anatomical Record special issue on Triassic vertebrates.
