Apply Now for Summer Opportunities in Anatomy Research

Now in its fifth year, the SOAR (Summer Opportunities in Anatomy Research) program at the University of North Texas Health Science Center provides undergraduate students the opportunity to gain research, education, and outreach experience in the anatomical sciences.

Funded by the AAA’s Innovations Program and a NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates award, the 10-week internship program specifically targets undergraduate populations that do not share a campus with a graduate anatomy program or have similar opportunities at their home institutions.

“Five years in, we’re also starting to see the SOAR alumni have success in their own careers,” said Rachel Menegaz, associate professor at UNTHSC’s Center for Anatomical Sciences and a SOAR Research Mentor. “We even have one SOAR alumna (Baonhu Tran) who is now a first year PhD student at UNTHSC and will be involved as a peer mentor for this year’s interns.”

The application period for the 2023 UNTHSC SOAR program is now underway. Undergraduate students with the intention of pursuing a research-based graduate degree and a future career in the anatomical sciences have until March 1 to apply.
